How to Broadcast FM?

Question

I need information being that I'm learning from scratch. If you know a good book to purchase please let me know.

Specifically, I was wondering if you could pick up a radio station on a new transmitter and bounce it through another antenna? This might sound ridiculous but it seems like it should be possible.

i would go to ebay and type in "fm transmitter" and sort by highest first ot see what is available

then i would go wikipedia and type in "fm transmitter" and get an overview

i think you need a microwave relay but that would be serious tech - simple is always best

um, i dont really know but try this, i cant see it but it tells you about building a am radio that u can broadcast sounds across ur house. try getting a radio and get a audio cable so u can connect it to the device. i  asked my dad if it is possible to broadcast am to fm and vice-versa but my dad cannot understand it

Some interesting answers, BUT, what you propose is commonly done with what is known as a translator.  It has a receiver to pickup the originating station, and a transmitter to retransmit it on another freuqency.  One catch, it must be licensed by the FCC here in the US and the governing agency in most other countries.  IF you are just concerned about a very short distance, there are some part 15 devices out there that will give you a half mile or so that are legal if used properly.

The best thing to do is get an FM transmitter (search on the internet for one of these) - and connect it to a mixing desk. Using the mixing desk, you can control what audio is being broadcast and effectively you have your own radio stations.

Be careful though because if it's not a MP3 Player/DAB Radio with an FM Transmitter to broadcast & recieve it within a few meters of each other then you need a licence from OFCOM, PPL and PRS.

It is to do with the range of the transmitter -

if it is broadcasting for miles around then you SHOULDN'T be transmitting other radio stations, and if you are then it is illegal, but if it is just an MP3 Player/iPod etc. with built in transmitter then they will only broadcast for a few meters and they require no licences.

If you could supply some more detailed info then I can advise you on weather it is the expensive mixing desk option or the rather cheaper MP3 Player with built in FM Transmitter option that would be best for you.
