How to Care For A Sick Cockatiel At Home?

My Cockatiel is having respiratory problems and difficulty breathing. How can I take care of him at home? He is also constantly moving his tail up and down and is having discharge from his beak, eyes, and nostrils. How can I get him better? Also, his face and head feathers are coated with mucus and he's pooping out half-digested seeds. His droppings look abnormal. What could be wrong with him?

  1. okay i just had a sick cockatiel and they are hard to diagnose as there aren't many avairy vets. my bird had breathing problems and within two days had to be rushed to the vets tobe put on oxygen. the vet said she had an infection when in reality she had air sack mites. cockatiels not only have lungs they have air sacs. she had gotten the mites from some food i had bought from the store. cockatiels also have a number of digestion problems. i would reccomend getting your baby to a avairy specialist asap. until then keep a light (red is better) on the cage with it patially covered in a blanket. you dont want to sweat the bird out (so to speak) but you do want to make sure that if it is an issue with her lungs, they dont stay wet and cold. i hope i helped.

  2. If you want to get him better than you need to take him to the vet and take him now.

  4. Take the bird to the vet.... NOW.

Or else get a box ready and dig a hole in the yard....

Birds only show signs of illness when they are already
