  1. you should try 2 or 3 martial arts by a taster session or you could  view from youtube some competitive games of that sport. I do Karate and Taekwondo and both are great. if you like grappling and ground fighting try judo, if you like kicking and punching try karate, taekwondo or kickboxing.  it also depends on your body. if you are heavy i think you'll be better at judo, if you are flexible and fast you will enjoy karate

  2. i would recommend mma(mixed marshal arts), there is probably a gym around where you live teaching it, it involves stand up like Maui Thai and boxing and ground game like wrestling and Jiu Jitsu, anything you may encounter in a fight.

  3. best thing is to try everything out but if u cant do that make a list of what u want to do. like if u wanna do soft or hard style, or if u wanna do more punches or kicks or a mix, if u could really use it in rl and etc, and then try to research based on ur list

  4. Ask yourself these questions.

    1. What is offered in your area of operation?

If you can't go to the class you can't learn it.

    2. What are you willing to pay for instruction?

    Can you afford the prices?

    3. What are your goals within the Martial arts as a whole?

    Sport or self defence?

    4. what is your body type?

    Northern Asia = taller people

Korean arts work better for taller people with longer legs.

Southern Chinese arts work better for shorter people.

    Stocky people are better wrestlers.

    and so on and on.

Do some research and look into what you think will work for you .

    Good Luck

  5. A lot of it depends on what is in your area, and if it gels with your budget.

If you are looking for something intense with lots of cardio you could go with muay thai or boxing or something like that.

I you are looking for a traditional experience you could go for a type of kung fu. Or if you are looking into something for ground game, you could go with brazilian jiu jitsu or sambo....there is something for everyone, whether its wanting to be able to do the flashy moves, getting fit, self defense, the traditional kung fu experience, or anything...it all depends on what you want to get out of the martial art

    Good Luck

  6. Whichever one you enjoy the most.

  7. Try them. Do your research, read up on the styles that are available in your area. Then go to several schools and try a couple of classes at each. See which one fits best for you. And if you go to one TKD school and you don't like it, maybe try another before giving up on it completely, same goes with other styles. Oh and by the way....martial arts is addictive. I joined a TKD school 5 years ago and have fallen in love with the sport and lifestyle. I have even taught classes for the past 3 years! Good Luck and welcome to the wonderful world of Martial Arts! :-)

  8. I answer this kind of question all the time.

It is not the martial art that is important. It is the instructor. Find the most qualified, knowledgeable one and you have found the art for you. It is not rank, titles, trophies, or awards. It is the knowledge and ability to teach correctly that is important.
