I keep getting negative thoughts sometimes without any reason.my mind is always restless when i sit alone.I'm a person who hides my emotions and don't cry easily just like my dad.for example when, i attend a funeral of some relative or friend, though i feel quite sad for them i don't feel like crying.I get tensed about the whole situation and get negative thoughts about that person or the situation.i feel guilty of thinking that way because not in my wildest dreams i wanted such negative irrelevant thoughts to pop up in mind.i get scared that god might get angry at me though it's not exactly my mistake i don't do it intentionally.i have made efforts to switch from negative to positive thoughts and have slightly succeeded but still keep getting such thoughts at times.is this because i hide my emotions?if so what can be done?how to control my thoughts? please help.

  1. don't worry. I can appretiate ur problem as i have been through it. it happens because u worry about urself and ur family. U fear the situation, and dread that u don't have to face it as ur friend faced is having. actually its fear of losing loved ones and a sense of guilt about urself.

As an individual we fear that we don't become bad in the eyes of god. It is like this:  we are good, but we fear that the situation might not make bad.  It is this FEAR which has to conquered. U have to be tough.

Technically:: It is a sort of Social Phobia + avoidant personality disorder.

  2. have company of positve friends, read positive literature, believe in God..

  3. Negative thoughts are natural to the mind and is part of the body's defence mechanism. The problem arises when one tries to control these thoughts. Allow all thoughts to say what they want. The guilty conscience comes to being when one thinks that one is responsible for all these thoughts! Be sure that you are not responsible for all such unsolicited, unintentional thoughts, particulary in front of God ,for he always knows the truth.Be convinced of this and be happy. As to emotions, don't worry about your not being good at expressing them etc. Some do it , some don't- apples and oranges. Emotions have a way of getting expressed on their own someway or the other, when the mind thinks it to be necessary for its health.

  4. It seems like you are uncomfortable with your emotions. When thoughts come into your head you obsess over them. Frustrattion anger fear and sadness are all natural emotions.

You will stop obsessing over your thought when you accept thoughts as that just thoughts also try to get in touch with releasing your emotions ;)

  5. Only remedy to control negative thoughts is to stop negative thoughts and let only positive thoughts enter your mind.

It requires patience and will power to control your thoughts. Yoga is one way that can drain away your negative energy and provide you a feeling of well being..In addition go out and enjoy with your friends.

I would recommend read "Yoga sutras of Patanjali" by BKS Iyengar for exhaustive reading.
