Question:

How to Delete Vista (But Save it to a Disc)?

I just bought a new HP Laptop, and it came with Windows Vista. However, I want to install Windows XP. I have XP on disc and I know how to reformat a hard drvie and install a new operating system, but when I asked the salesperson in the store where I bought the computer, he told me that I should save the current Vista to a few DVD's so that if anything goes wrong I can always put Vista back on and start again.

How do I save Vista to DVD's so that I can restore it later?

  1. It is a problem with some computer manufacturers that they have gone to not providing disks with their new systems.  Instead, there will be a function within the "company" OS to create the disks.  It varies from company to company so you could check with HP to determine where this function exists.  You could also check your manual for this information.  You will need a couple of DVD's and a little patience.  Once the DVD's are made, make an extra set and store them separately in the event one set gets lost or damaged.  You will also want to save any data you have created on the new laptop as it will not be saved by the Disk Creation process.
