  1. Seriously?  Most of the "Greens" are going to hate me for this, but...

Get a shipload or two, roughly 50-100,000 tons, of iron dust.  Pick a spot in the ocean where there is little life, and dump it.  Preferably, do so in such a way that it disperses over an area of several hundred square miles.

The dust will fertilize that area of the ocean.  Plankton will metabolize the dust and grow and multiply.  As they do so, they will fix carbon from the ocean (and the atmosphere above it) through photosynthesis.  Marine life will either feed on the plankton or on the marine life that does so.  The primary "pollutant" of all this activity is fish.  All the carbon that is fixed will end up in either the plankton, the fish, or the intermediate creatures on the food chain.

The next most effective strategy would be to paint as many roof or pavement surfaces as possible white.  That wouldn't remove any carbon from the atmosphere, but would prevent a significant portion of the sunlight reaching the earth from being converted to heat and thus trapped by the earth's greenhouse effect.  If we had a moratorium on dark-colored roofs starting tomorrow, the total effect on the earth's mean temperature over the next decade would be several times that of a full implementation of the Kyoto protocols.

And finally, build nuclear reactors.  Every kilowatt of electricity that is generated by nuclear powerplants instead of fossil-fueled power plants is one produced with significantly less carbon emissions.  No combination of alternate power sources without nuclear can replace all of our existing fossil fuel plants.  But nuclear can do it all by itself.

And as a postscript, a long-term solution would be to build solar power satellites.  Solar cells in space recieve sunlight 24/7, with no outages due to thunderstorm or nightfall.  The power could be beamed back to earth as low-intensity microwaves, with negligible environmental impacts.  It is easy to show that comparable terrestrial solar cell installations could never meet existing power demands without tremendous effects on the environment.  But, for some reason, people seem to overlook that and pretend that if everyone just covered their roof with solar cells, they'd become energy self-sufficient.  Simply put, they would be spending several times what they now do for electricity, and not getting enough juice to run the ac units, refrigerators, and lights that they have now.

Of course, none of these solutions require a tremendous deal of personal sacrifice or energy conservation.  For that reason, I expect this answer to get several negative votes.  And I have nothing against energy conservation, except when it gets taken to the point where it is considered a virtue to shiver in the dark.

  2. try to make minimal use of ur vehcles....planting trees near the roadside and avoiding cutting them aimlessly...spreading awareness among people,to do the same...

  3. save energy, totally eliminate wastage, use public transport,

    most important, reduce your needs,

its even more imp to save water

  4. I think Global Warming is the serious issue nowadays but it can be solved if the people and Govt. wants. Global Warming emerges from the dangerous gases produced by all types of vehicles, industries etc. To reduce this we can plant trees as much as possible so that it can be absorb by the trees because trees observed the dangerous gases and release oxygen. The living things required oxygen and will get from the trees therefore I suggest that everyone in the world plant a tree and not cut the trees which are grown up the problem will be solved in few years otherwise we will die with this problem.

  5. find a technology / several technologies that will provide all our energy needs from non fossil fuel sources, preferably from direct sunlight and from wind, in addition to hydro power, waves, etc.

and at the same time find technologies that will rebury the CO2 that we have already released into the atmosphere, by biological as well as other means.

  6. if every person tries to switch off the lights which are not in use

Tv button should be switched off comletely and not on standby

    try to use sodium lights

  7. the Indian philosophy says, 'Be and Make'.

so the most important part is to start with ourselves, n then move on to motivate others.

the best way to prevent global warming is by adapting to a nature friendly lifestyle. it can include following actions-

    -efficient use of electricity

-minimal use of private vehicles, using public transport instead.

-recycling a lot of things of daily use, eg a plastic bag

-use of cycles, use of recycled paper, or things which are with the eco-friendly tag,

-creating a sense of responsibility in oneself that we owe to nature.

these can help us prevent not only global warming but many other environmental problems

  8. Warning has no effect unless stopped once and for all .Other wise face whatever it may come as we are in the mood of enjoyment turning a deaf ear to all the warnings .How shall we put the clock back ?

  9. I live in Oregon. Oregon is cold. It used to snow about every 5 years, now it snows every year. Global warming? Or global cooling? If global warming was real, which it is not, I would be all for increasing it.

  10. my take on this issue, one of the many others, is efficient use of energy in our buildings other structures. buildings are responsible for the bulk of energy use in our planet, more than 40% of enegy comsumption is on buildings. new technology in building materials and building systems cost more initially and are not conventional, but the long term pay-offs are worth it.

  11. Buy CFC-Free products. CFC means Chloro Fluro Carbons and are used conventional refrigerators & A/Cs

  12. by following really simple steps like switching off lights, fans and tv even for 10 seconds if u go out of the room.not using fancy lights which consume extra energy.use more and more of public transport.save water coz its really gonna be scarce in a few years

  14. grow more tress in cities, keep away from misuse of petrol and diesel in hi-societys of metro cities, and every man has atleast five tress and he has to meet that tress on every morning.

  15. Global Warming is misnamed, it should be called Global Climate Change.

Regardless of what technologies we develop, we need social change to correct our path. As a species, we are like teenagers who take too many chances, act aggressively, and think they can never die.

Probably humans won't learn and willl become extinct.

In the hundreds of millions of years of evolution, many more species have become extinct than are alive today.  We will probably join the millions of already extinct species.

I wonder how many other creators we will take with us?

  16. 1)  Use of fossil fuels has to be reduced by at least 70%

    2)  the population has to be reduced to 5-600,000
