  1. You Won't Like this...

    Don't call in sick!

You did the wrong thing by talking to /asking your coworker for the day off and not your Boss.( you co-worker has no authority over your work schedule)   Don't make this worse by calling in sick - plus other people know, your not sick - I guarantee you - someone will'' rat you out''

    As a manager

I always let all my employees know immediately upon hire,  I could Love you to Pieces and I could forgive them almost anything except lying.  Lying could be grounds for immediate termination.

Occasionally I would laugh( but it wasn't funny)  and comment how my employee ''must have had a terrible fever the day before ( when they called in sick ), Because I could see the fever  was so bad it burned their skin!'' .OMG.???..(They were Sunburned from the gorgeous day before when they called in sick).  I knew... and they knew I knew... It didn't go well after that

Many States are ''At Will Sates" meaning they do not need to give you a reason to terminate you, they just can,  Don't give your boss a reason.. if you value your job, or future References.

Consider your options and I hope you choose to do the right thing.

  2. have someone else to call your boss and say you had to leave town because of a family situation...

  3. You should suck it up and just go to work, unless you plan on leaving this job soon and don't care. If you plan on staying at this job, then I would suggest for the peace of your future work relationships and your good standing at work, just go in. Nobody likes to pick up other people's slack and have to be the "good" employee so you can have your day off, while they are forced to suffer in your place. It's not fair to your co-workers and your boss will notice it and keep it in mind for your future requests and needs. You'll just make it harder on yourself in the long run to be treated with respect at work. Sorry, I know that's not the answer you wanted, but that's the truth.

  4. Lying is dishonest.  You are better off showing up to work unless you can get a co-worker to cover for you.  You should have asked your boss for Sunday off instead of being sneaky about this.
