  1. Take a 60 degree wedge, open the face and lay it flat on the ground.  Open your stance and aim,  take a full swing, and try to go completely under the ball. It should pop up.

  2. There are a couple of keys to hitting this shot well.

    1. If your wedge has a high bounce, or if you are on a very tight lie, consider other options. This shot only works well when there's a slight cushion underneath the ball that you can access.

    2. Get your hands to be very active in the swing. There was a great little tidbit by Phil Mickelson a few months ago in Golf Digest that shows how much he c***s his wrists on flop shots. You do this to get the head of the club moving VERY fast, which is the key to getting under the ball and having the ball pop UP, not OUT toward the hole.

    3. Make sure to keep a little more weight on your left foot than your right foot. Sounds counter-intuitive, but if you hang back, you tend to chunk this shot.

    4. Make sure to swing through the ball and fully release your hands. Again, it is not what your body will naturally do, but if you abbreviate the release of your hands, you will tend to deloft your club, reduce the spin, hit it too low, and likely throw off your timing.

    5. FINISH THE SHOT. If you aren't fully committed to this shot, there is a high likelihood of it failing. So, if you decide to try it, do it all the way.

By the way, when you do pull it off, it's insanely fun. Plus, your golf buddies will be impressed!
