Question:

How to I successfully "forward a port" on my computer?

I want to forward a port for uTorrent, but I am having a little bit of trouble.

I go to Connections --> TCP/IP --> Properties, and it asks for my IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Default DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server. I am not sure what to put for these.

I have my IP and Subnet Mask, but I am not sure how to find my DNS Servers or Default Gateway. I open command prompt and type ipconfig, but the Default Gateway always returns as 10.1.1.3, which doesn't seem to work.

Thanks a lot everyone :)

  1. www.portforward.com

Find your router and it'll give you instructions on how to forward ports.

  2. Hi,

Port Forwarding is usually down on your "Router" rather then your local PC.

If you do not have a router, but have a switch or a hub, there's a good chance you won't be able to port forward. But, if you know what router you have, go to http://portforward.com/routers.htm and from there you will be able to locate your router and engage in a easy step by step tutorial on how to portforward.

    Good Luck!

  3. You need to do the port forwarding on your router, not on your pc, log into your router look for port forwarding and add the port and ip address of yoru computer.
