Question:

How to Keep Bugs & Pests out of my English House?

I'm an American living in London. My family and I live right outside the city in their version of Suburbia a.k.a Surrey. Anyways we are both appalled at how many bugs & pests infest their houses. In my bedroom, at night all those little nocturnal spiders seem to crawl out. I know that in England they don't kill their house spiders because they keep the level of bugs down (BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE SCREENS ON THEIR WINDOWS and CENTRAL AIR does not exist here) So on the few weeks in the year where it does get very hot it is neccassary to open the windows. But that lets in so many bugs! One night I stayed up late to read and there were at least 15 little suckers flying around my room. Now i know the rule to never leave your light on with the window (common sense really) but I still get a lot of bugs and am not comfortable with spiders in my bedroom. How do I keep the bugs out? Can I spray something around the windows? Should I only open them at certain times of the day? etc? anyone know?

xx

I really love it here. Just not crazy about the bugs.

  1. come home & stop *******.

  2. This is the wonderful part of nature we call the food chain, some of us feed in the day, some in the night. The spiders, now hiding in the dark, with pincers at the ready,  have come into your house to feed on the bugs attracted by the light. The bugs are generally moths, harmless really, but they are spiders favourite dish. The spiders are doing a marvellous job preventing a moth population explosion, which could, if allowed to happen, create a world of grossly obese Bats and spiders.  poor things

  3. my bedroom is in the our basement which just got finished and there are tons of spiders. i use to kill about 6 every night, then we ordered the riddex plus. you just plug it into the wall and it sends electric pulses through the wall. I think it's like 40 or 50 bucks for 2. one plug covers an entire floor. i haven't seen a spider since. but it also can hurt rodent pets like mice, hamsters, gerbils, etc... It's a lot cheaper than a professional exterminator and it doesn't give off any fumes.

the website you can order at is here

    hope i helped :]

  4. Sprinkle lime all our the outside perimeter of your residence, this will stop the bugs from coming in.  For the bugs that already reside in your home,  purchase a bug bomb.  They sell them at pet stores to kill flea's in your rugs and furniture.  All you do is take any pets out of the house for a few hours, set the bomb, it will spray the entire inside of your home, and it doesn't leave any residue, just dead bugs. I could not live in a home or a car or anywhere 10 ft. from a spider.  Oh my God,  I have chills.  Good luck  Dee
