Question:

How to Label Toy Bins

How do you label yours? I have been trying to teach my 3 year old how to put his toys away for a while now but it still hasn't sunk in. I'm waning to print some pictures of different things to label on each bin so he will know where to put each toy (trucks, dinosaurs, etc). Do you know of a website where I can find several different pictues for this purpose? Any other ideas?

Thanks!!

  1. What the house that I work for did was put all the toys where you want them, and then take a picture looking down in the bucket/tub. We just printed them on the computer and taped them to the tubs. Then when it come time to pick up, just tell him to match the pictures to the toy in his hand. It works well because he can't say he doesn't know where it goes and it helps build association skills. He can learn that o, this block goes here, maybe one that looks like it does too. It gets easier as time goes on, so if it doesn't work at first, don't give up. Good luck!!

  2. Yes thats a good Idea. Try clip art because they have a lot of pictures, Then you can cut them out and put them on post-it notes and tape them to the bins. Or just search google images. You could also have your son draw the pictures so that reminds him.

  3. if you aren't artistic enough to draw pictures yourself, i know I'm not, then just search images of children toys and crop and print them then paste them to your child's toy bins, eventually he will get the hang of it

    here is an example.....http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=...

  4. That is a good idea. You can also take a pic with a camera of him and the toy, i.e. him holding his truck, dinosaurs...and laminated them (I use lamited you can buy at office max) and put them on the toy bins. I is more fun that way and they get a kick out of seeing themselves on the toy box. I also write the name of the toy on a piece of paper and tape it on the toy bin. This way they learn to aassociated the letters and the toys. It helps with reading.
