Question:

How to Prepare for a Root Canal?

I unfortunately am getting a root canal. I'm not looking forward to it at all. How can I prepare for it? I'm really kind of freaked out about it. I hate going to the dentist. Do they hurt more than a filling? I asked my dentist and he says that they are no big deal. I really don't understand what is involved with a root canal.

  1. I have had 4 root canals and during the procedure you  should  not feel any pain. The Dentist will  probably medicate  you with Novocaine.A root canal involves removing the nerves.

  2. I just had a root canal last week, and I was freaking out before I went in! But the only thing that actually hurt was the Novocaine, once your numb you dont feel a thing just pressure. After the numbness wears off you'll just feel pain in your jaw from the shot that will last a couple days, I had no pain in my tooth which was good! In a root canal the dentist will take out the nerves in your tooth which is probably really hurting you. In my case I couldn't eat, talk, bite my mouth down  even sleep I was in horrible pain so in a way I was glad to be in the dentist chair! Good luck!
