  2. If you've downloaded DivX movies and burned them to a DVD+RW, they won't play on many standard set top DVD players as (like the previous writer said) this is not standard DVD Movie format. In fact many older players won't recognise DVD±RW disks even if you DO convert your files to standard DVD Movie format. Some older players even have problems with DVD±R disks!

However, you can now buy inexpensive DVD players that WILL accept any type of DVD±R and DVD±RW disk and they WILL recognise and play DivX, Xvid, AVI and MPG video files on those disks.

I reckon one of these players (around $60 at Strathfield/DSE/Tandy etc) is money well spent, it'll save you having to learn how to convert and then tying up your PC while it does the conversions.

  3. DVD +RW are not a compatibale format for DVD players.

The file you have is avi or mpg format.  If you just want to back it up on to a DVD to play using DivX then just use any burning software, and type of DVD R or RW. Then open the file on the DVD RW with DivX.

If you want to watch the movie in a DVD player or have it auto run and play in another player like WMP just like a normal DVD then you need to convert the format and use DVD R
