  1. There is no need to restore your system time to time until and unless if you have any problem with you computer.

    Steps to restore you computer:-

Go to Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

-> Create a restore point -> next -> type the name and click on create.

If you have any problem with your Computer you use this restore point.

If any problem you can use click on Restore my computer to an eralier time.Restet of the steps are easy.

  2. HOW TO DO A SYSTEM RESTORE

If your computer stops working properly, for example the CD drive stops working, a System Restore can usually resolve this and similar problems.  The System Restore returns the computer settings to an earlier date, before the problem happened, without losing data, such as letters, documents, photographs, etc.  This is how you do the System Restore.

Click on Start, then Control Panel.  If your computer is in Classic View (as indicated on the top left of the screen), then switch to Category View by clicking on that line.  Then click Performance and Maintenance.  On the top left of the screen, you will see a line saying “System Restore”.  Click that line and you’ll then get a screen explaining about System Restore and how it works.  Press next and a calendar screen appears.  Click on a date marked in bold, as these are dates you can use to restore to an earlier setup time.  When you’ve found a date that pre-dates when your problem started, choose that as a restore point.  Click through again and allow that restore to run its course.

Please be aware that, although any restore point is reversible and can be “un-restored”, any programmes you’ve installed between the present time and the restore time will be taken out of the system.  So for example, if you’ve installed MS Word in between today and the restore date, Word will be taken out.  This means you’ll have to back it up so that you can restore it, using either the disk that came with it or an external storage mechanism (for example flash drive, floppy disk, etc).  You will not need to back up the documents, e.g. letters, forms, pictures, etc, as they will not be lost in the restore process.

After you’ve run the restore process and the computer has booted up again, click through to the main screen and  check that your fault has been fixed by this process.  For example, is the disk drive now working, or whatever else was at fault?  If it’s all working again then that’s it, job done.  If not, choose another restore point and try again.  You can restore like this as many times as necessary, as long as there are restore points available.  Please be aware that you can only restore using dates in bold, as they are the only restore points the computer will allow.

After you’ve ran the System Restore, there will also be an option on the calendar screen to undo System Restore.  This can be used, if necessary, to put your computer back to how you started, before you used the System Restore.  This is useful, if you’ve tried lots of restore points and “got lost” in the process, as it undoes the restore settings you’ve tried to make.  You can’t use the Undo System Restore until you’ve done at least one System Restore, as there is nothing to undo yet.  Sounds obvious, but this is just for clarification.

If you have tried all the restore points and your problem still remains, then you need to think about other possible resolutions to your problem.   I can’t advise beyond that, as it would depend on the nature of the problem, but please feel free to contact me and I’ll try to get you up and running again.
