How to Tell if Shoes are Made of Real Leather or Fake Leather?

Okay, so I've got a pair of shoes, that I've had for a while, and I don't know whether or not they're made of real leather or synthetic.

They are New Balance something or another, mostly made of cloth, but with a few pieces of what looks like either real or fake leather. I can't figure out which ones they are in the online store because they all look the same. Grr.

Anyway, do I need to make a thrift store run to try and find new shoes, is basically the question. I know, I know, minimal information, apologies, apologies, but yeah?
