  1. There is no need to buy a pass for you journey to and from the airport.

When arriving you will buy two tickets (one to go into the city and the other you can save for your return). Just tell the clerk at the ticket booth "Paris" and they will give you the right ticket a(they deal with thousands of tourists every day).

You will be taking the RER B line from the station inside the terminal at CDG to Gare du Nord. There you will transfer (no additional ticket is required) to Metro line 5 marked " Direction : Place d'Italie". to Republique.

One small caution. Make sure that when looking for the Metro line you don't exit the system. If you see a sign that says "limite de validité des billets" that is what you are about to do.

Once you are in Paris a pass may or may not be worthwhile depending on how many trips on public transport you make every day. Paris is a very compact city and is best and most easily seen on foot with limited use of public transport. Unless you will be traveling on the metro or buses more than three times in a given day it is cheaper just to buy a "carnet" of ten tickets which can be used as needed and which never expire. If you have any left over at the end of your trip you can save them for your next visit even if that is years from now.

If, on any given day, you expect to be doing a lot of traveling on the Metro, then buy a "mobilis" which is a one day pass and not to be confused with the "Paris Visite" pass which is a tourist rip off. For travling in the city of Paris you need only buy the pass for zones 1 & 2 which includes all of Paris proper. The Mobilis is not shown on the English language version of the RATP website but is readily available at any ticket booth. No photos or any other ID is required to purchase one.
