I'm using an Excel (2003) Chart to track a portfolio's performance. I'm using the candlesticks option. However, I want to draw a comparison line with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and another line with the S&P500. How can I do this? Thanks for your help.

  1. find the Draw toolbar for Charts.  It usually pops up on the bottom of the screen.  there are a number of options for drawing lines.  it should be pretty easy once you locate teh toolbar.  It might be under Tools.

  2. You need to fill in three adjacent columns with the closing values of your portfolio, S&P and DJ for the time period that you want to compare.

Next click on Chart wizard, select Line and Chart Type and select the three adjacent rows and click on Finish. This should give the comparison lines to you. You can right click on the chart itself to modify it to the way it suits you.
