How to adopt a 15 year old girl?

What are the reqirements to adopt a 15 year old girl of your relatives who already has a home but is not happy with her family in California? And do you have to be a citizen or is having a green card good enough if you've lived in US for 11 years? and where do you have to go to sign up to adopt that child and how long does it take? helpppp!

  1. Her parents would have to relinquish their rights. If she is living with other relatives as a result of their deaths, you might discuss with them the possibility of guardianship.

    My childhood neighbor gave her sister and BIL guardianship of her teenaged son because she was trying to remove him from a bad element.  It was very successful and he really did well as an adult as a result.  I'm sure there are other situations where this is the best choice.

    You do not have to be a citizen; your green card is good enough. You need to contact a lawyer that deals with adoption law AFTER you've spoken with the relatives (because if they aren't signing on for the deal, it's a waste of your $$).


  2. I believe her parents would have to relinquish their rights.  She could look at becoming an emancipated minor and then she could live you if she chose to do so but she may have to be 17---have her check with the laws of her state.

  3. you cant adopt the girl unless her parents allow it.

    and i doubt they want her leaving anywhere soon.

    just wait till she is 18 and let her live with you.
