How to advertise/market a beta product?

Question

I have a piece of software (more specifically a web-based service) and it is in "beta" right now. My goal is to get as many people as possible to test it, give them full access to everything, and just see how it fares in the real world. I am willing to do things like give people 1 year free accounts just for participating, etc. But I am not sure what I should do to promote my service.

I currently am paying for Google AdWords and was wondering if there is anything else I can do to help the cause along. What is the best method of advertising in this particular scenario?

Hi Mr Bob!

Send a video email explaining what you want and organising the URL links out to your Web 2.0 beta testing site!

Send it to your database/address book and ask those recipients to pass it on - use viral marketing!  A very powerful tool!  You can have this tool for under $120 for the year!

Check out the website for examples and remember ALL the URL's can link where ever you want!  You can also run web/broadcasts to the world to advertise and educate!!  (look at video streaming to see all the functionality!)
