  1. Before you can get any medical treatment paid back form the government health insurance you will have to be enrolled in one of the 'health care funds', ziekenfonds in Dutch, Mutualité in French or go to the government institute for this.

So visit the organization of your choice and they will tell you how to be part of the government health care system.

    Christian fund (largest): http://www.cm.be/nl/100/

    Socialist: http://www.socmut.be/SocMut/RegioMap.htm

    Independant Fund: http://www.onafhankelijkziekenfonds.be/j...

    Liberal (smallest): http://www.mut400.be/jsp/index.jsp

    Government help fund: http://www.caami-hziv.fgov.be/Model4-10-...

If you want social security (unemployment well fare, pensions) then you have to enroll in one of the labour unions or the independant government institute for this.

Pay them a visit and they should assist you.

    Christian (largest): http://www.acv-online.be/

    Socialist: http://www.abvv.be/

    Liberal (smallest): http://www.aclvb.be/

    Government aid fund: http://hvw.fgov.be/

The government fund(s) usually give less assistance, but the other funds may ask a (small) fee to be a member. In Belgium most people are member of one of the non-government funds, especially for the health care system.

Also, if you can't speak one of our official languages and prefer English you have much more luck finding English help at a Flemish office/person than a Francophone office/person.
