okay so i gave birth to a little boy five months ago, but his father wanted to name and didn't have a name at the time of birth. he took two months to come up with a name. when i went back to the hospital to give them the name, they said they only deal with that up to 6 weeks after birth, and claimed that they didn't know where i was to go to get the certificate. so i ask how do i now go about getting this done? where do i go?

also i reside in baltimore md

  1. If you gave birth in a hospital. the hospital files that paperwork for you. you should have signed alot of papers. what you are suppose to send in, is for your baby to get his/her SSN... i would contact your hospital where you gave birth to see how long before you receive your baby's birth certificate. mine took about 10-14 weeks to get.

Wow, i just re-read your question. you need to go and speak with a supervisor at that hospital. they do know where you should go and speak to... you obviously just talked to someone who prob. didnt know anything. go and speak to a supervisor.

or go to this site, there are a couple numbers you can call and it lists what you need to file and send in:

  2. You have to go to the probate court where you delivered your baby. meaning the city or county the hospital is located.
