  1. The best practice is to reserve an ip address for the printer so pick an address available and reserve it for the printer. Now it has a static ip

  2. It really depends on the router. Often routers have configuration web pages (type http://192.168.0.1/ into a browser, or whatever the IP of your router is) where you can set static IPs. To set a static IP, you will need the printer's MAC address, which can be found either on the printer or within the router's configuration.

  3. You need to see what your DHCP ip address reange is and assign an address outside that range but on the same subnet. So on a linksys say, the IP addresss pool for DHCP is from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.250. This allows 150 devices to obtain addresses automatically. You would assign an IP such as 192. 168.1.50 to the printer. This will prevent duplicate addresses on the network.

For the DNS settings, subnet mask, and default gateway, Goto a machine on the network and launch the command prompt by going to start and selecting RUn and entering CMD and hitting ok. At the command prompt type: ipconfig /all

and hit the return key. That will display the info you need for the printer. Do not use the same IP obviously.

To enter the information in the printer, it is usually done right from the screen on the printer and using the buttons on it.

If no buttons, etc, go into your router and see if it shows up in your dhcp table of clients. Find this by going to status in the router menu usually.
