How to attract swim team members?

Ok, my school's swim team has been really deminishing on numbers over the last couple of years and I would like to know what are some good ways to get other kids to join the team. This past season we had 7 guys and 1 girl on the team. The guys went 10-7 and the girl went 0-17. We've been trying to figure out ways to get more people to join the team, but so far have been unable to do so.

What are some stratagies that we can use/try to get more people to come and join the team? What kind of things do you think are most likely to get them interested in the first place?

Advertise! =)

And over the summer maybe you guys can hold conditioning so some people can see/get into what swimming is all about.

Ask teachers to advertise on morining anoucments and on the school paper!

Well lmaybe you can go to the summer swim program and tell students there about the swim team at school and convince them to join it?

Advertise would be the best way. What about giving away free gifts? Such as goggles or kick board. You can have a small swimming competition in your school too, recruit the best one and those who are interesting in swimming but need training to built up to a better level.

I'm in the swim team and lifeguard corps. I was swimming one day and I saw how the lifeguard corps trained and enjoyed their time at the pool, that's the reason I joined lifeguard corps too. You have to let the students know the benefits and fun after joining swim team.

There is no other way other than recruiting.  Perhaps keep a list of league/conference results, and recruit eligible swimmers from the summer league.  Some of those swimmers see what they can do at the high school level (assuming you are talking of a high school team), they might be interested.  Do team events together (ie., pizza place after meets, etc.)  The more social the team is, the more others might be interested.

put an advertisement up! offer free swimsuits. tell them stuff that they wanna hear, that will happen.

Send out fliers, send emails to some friends, or some members    

of the school! i would really like to join Ur swimming team, if i was not already on one. oh and u might want to start sending the advertisements out in the summer, or when it starts getting really hot! cause that will be when people want to swim more. well good luck!
