How do you avoid swallowing pool water? Every day I have swimming pratice and so far it's been 2 days since the first day. Every time I go in the pool I always swallow a little bit of water. It doesn't feel good and I don't want to die, so how do I avoid swallowing it? Esp. when you swim freestyle since you have to turn your head to the left or right to breathe, there's always water there.

  1. You will eventually become more comfortable with the water and at that time the water will not enter your mouth.  Blow bubbles out into the water during freestyle when you are not breathing so that when you do breathe, all you have to do is inhale (not exhale) and that will decrease your time and prevent more water from coming in.  Humming keeps water out of your nose (so do competition nose clips by Speedo).

  2. its hard to stop swallowing water

when i swam i swallled atot everyday and im still living

i dout you will die but you could get ill

when swimming freestlye, practice with a spring and turning you head fast and quick that all you have time to get is air.

also practice your endourance so you dont have to takin in as much air so less poll water swallowed

  3. Try breathing mostly with your nose and only open your mouth when you have to but when you are not in the water.  Try coordinationg your swimming a little better so that you know when and where to open your mouth to get as little water in your mouth as possible.

  4. gosh keep your mouth closed common sencee

  5. oh man. trust me on this one. It's a part of the sport. this is my 5th year swimming and playing water polo, and it just seems unavoidable. And you wont die. Maybe if you ate a raw chlorine tablet. But other then that you should be fine. Practice taking slower breaths when you breath. Slow and controlled. Like, my stroke is freestyle so breathing kinda comes natural to me

  6. Talk to an expirienced instructor to help you with your bretahing techniques.

I'm sure they could suggest better ways to avoid swallowing the pool water each time :-)
