i'm not talking about parallel parking.

i'm talking about parking in a normal parking spot, just making the back end go in first.

i have my license test coming up in a week or so, and i just can't seem to get it down!

are there any tricks? or easy methods?

i need step by step instruction, or just some suggestions will help too.

thank you!!!

  1. no comment.

  2. go to an empty parking lot. When you're backing up you have to look straight back so you can see what you're doing.so put your right arm behind the passenger seat and your left hand on the wheel and look back while you are parking.

  3. pull your car ahead so that you can back straight into this parking space, make sure that your car is lined up right to back into the space.with even space on both sides between the vehicles. ..Put the car in R for reverse, and step lightly on the gas peddle, easing the vehicle into the space.  Step  on the brake when you have backed into the space far enough to be even with the car next to you.  Now put the car in P for park.  I hope that is what you are looking for, It is not a big deal, it is sort of like asking a person to give you step by step instructions on how to sit in a chair...lol

  4. I back my Big dodge Diesel  in when parking> Pull past the space turn away then  looking in the drivers mirror looking at the paint stripes on the ground> Or the car next to you> Back in slowly looking at the car on the right so you clear it> Your car is easy as my big rig has no window on the side> Try out some where there is no cars just paint stripes>

  5. use ur glass windows and make sure you do the over the shoulder look ... LEANN BACKK. If you look back when you back in, I think its easier then the glass windows, but thats just my opinion. Use ur side windows and rear window, then reach ur hand back over the passenger seat like ur putting ur hand over ur first date at a movie and look back. Target the area ur supposed to be in and dive inn. DON'T STEP ON THE GAS

  6. This is what I had to do for my test for Ohio.  They call it a maneuverability test.  Here they have you pull through the four cones and up to the right or left of a fifth cone in front of the "parking" space.  you will use your mirrors to back into the parking space.

Once you are in front of the parking space such as you were driving down the parking aisle you will go past the space far enough to have the rear of the car pass the space by around a foot.  Place the car in reverse and slowly back up turning the wheel the direction you want the car to go to the right to back right to the left to back left.  As you are backing you need to pay attention to where the vehicle's back end in compared to the space on either side.  At first try this in an empty parking lot taking milk jugs and broom sticks.  then move to maybe on the broom sticks hanging bed sheets that way it's around the height of a car without the damage if there is an oops moment.  Try using the 5 cone (milk jug) method to get proficient at the backing.

    Good luck on the test.

  7. This is how I do it...

back 90 degree and 2 feet away from park line to a reference point ... the reference point is to identify that back line of your car is parallel to first park line of the parking slot you want to park .... in my case, I align the side beam to two park line before the parking slot which is good enough for my car to go into the parking slot fully without hitting near by parked car  ... based upon your car length find a reference point to the start the turn. Once you know this reference point it is simple.

Backed enough to the reference point, make a full turn into the parking space ... back untill you are parallel to park line. Now straighten the wheel and if needed, back further to complete the parking.

    Hope this helps!

  8. The trick is to imagine the parking space is a clock. When u turn the car to back into that space you want the rear of your car to be pointing between 6 & 7 on the clock and your front end to be pointing at 5 past seven,or a bit less.As you get nearer to the space turn the wheel.Works everytime. Try it.

  9. I use my side mirrors more than the rear, am still rubbish at parking a car, yet can park a truck or large van on a sixpence in a supermarket car park.

I line up to the markings of the opposite space to give me an idea of where I'm going whilst still checking my side mirrors and not rushing.

    Practice makes perfect.

    Good luck.

  10. you sound just like me. I'm getting my license (hopefully) this Saturday. I'm having such a hard time with this too. I'm getting better though, I actualy think its easier to park with cars around you, then you can tell what space youre going in. Then, look through the back window... they say to use youre mirrors, but I think its easier to look at the back. Just use the mirroes to make sure youre not hitting a car. I, too, was looking for a tequnique, but there really isent one, just back the car into the space, its actually easier than it sounds. Good Luck!!!

  11. It takes practice. Some pointers are to make sure that you know your car (length, width), have clear vision for the back, and ability to keep your hand straight on the steering wheel. You just back up slowly, noticing if you drift to either side. Look in your side mirrors, out the window if need be, in your back mirror, out the back window. It takes practice and patience. The best thing is to go to an empty parking lot and practice backing into a space with the goal of being between the lines.

  12. all i can suggest is take someone with you to an empty parking lot with a few cones, and set the cones up around a parking spot and just practice practice practice. practice makes perfect.

  13. my dad always told me to turn the wheel the way u want to go. and keep and eye on all three mirrors. they are like the eyes on the back of ur head! hope that helps!
