  1. You don't play Karate, you train or study or practice Karate. Just stretches everyday. Take it easy so you don't pull any muscles.

  2. stretch everyday!!! i did it

  3. You need to stretch a few times a day.  When you stretch, you need to hold each stretch for 30-60 seconds.  In karate you probably hold for 10, which is good for a warm-up, but to really improve your flexibility, you need to hold it for longer.

It's a good idea to warm-up before you stretch- a jog, jumping jacks, etc.  This warms up your muscles and helps prevent injury.

Since you mention you want to be able to kick high, I also suggest you work on kicking high (duh, right?).  Kicking isn't just about stretching it's also about balance, so it's a good idea to work on that too.

It's hard to describe how to stretch (you probably know anyway) but I've included a couple links to YouTube videos of stretching (first one is my favorite), and there are more (a lot more).

  4. Stretch several times a day.  When I started out I warmed up and stretched first thing in the morning, during my lunch break, after work and again before and AFTER workout.

If you've done karate before, I'll assume you already know several good stretching techniques.  The key is to not go so far that you pull something and are set back by it.  Also, make sure you use safe techniques that won't stress your joints.

Remember, warm-downs are just as important as warm-ups - you don't want to seize up and go back to being a rock ;)

  5. go to the question called something like I want to be a cheerleader.? I answered that one and I explained how to get flexible there

  6. You are going to need a complicated system of pullies and a coconut... and a bad 80's style unitard to train in.

Edit: Joking aside I believe you should be aware that stretching on cold muscles is a no-no. Always warm up before stretching, working to a point of a light sweat is a rule of thumb. Do not force the stretch or you can injure yourself and anything less than 15 seconds is a waste of time, and over 30 seconds is unnecessary.

I know a lot of people will say one minute but really just google around a bit and you will see that most studies come back saying 30 seconds is the golden number.

    Safe stretching to you.

  7. Short answer:

Most of your problems stretching are not in your muscles but your nervous system. It has to become reacquainted with the idea that extending that far is not a bad thing. Being patient and able to relax your muscles and relax away tension will help you to become flexible more quickly.

Keep in mind that there are so many experts who disagree on the science of stretching. Some say only use static stretches. Some say don't neglect dynamic. The one that's showing me the most promise is my long answer.

    Long Answer:
