I am Korean. I have a BA in English Language and literature. and a MA in English Education. I have been working as an English teacher in my country. I like children. So I want to be a Kindergarten teacher in CA. I want to know whether I have to go back to university or to a graduate school for the study of early childhood education in USA.

  1. You need to take the CBEST , enter a elementary credential program (K-8) at a university, pass the RICA, get fingerprinted, then you can look for a job in the public school with a valid credential.

For a private kindergarten, just apply to the school.

  2. With a BA and MA, you should only have to take the California Teachers test, called the CBEST to work in a district, pass the federal fingerprint investigation, and get a teaching credential.  You shouldn't need any units in early childhood unless you plan to teach in preschool.
