How to be a good dj at my dads birthday??

my dad is having his 51st birthday and i have a lot of songs on the laptop and i have a dj program on the laptop but im afraid of messing up the party cause they want music but not like rap or r&b but i love the kind so please help me Now his birthday is in 3 days!!

Its easy.  Pick music that your DaD tends to like.  If you are lost and have no idea, then do the math.

If he's turning 51, that means he was born in 1957.  In 1967 he was 10 (still too young to determine music tastes).  But, in 1977, he was 20, which is a good age.  So, I'd pick late 70's and early 80s music.  

Is he into Country or more so Rock n Roll?

Nothing will replace a professional entertainer.  Not even if you have the correct music - because a lot goes into a party - like music programming and MC skills plus dances etc.... Be careful trying to be something your not.

If you want to get into DJing work for another company first to learn the ropes then you can see if your good at it!

It is his birthday, so try to get music he likes. If it turns into a problem, hire one. I think it is important to have dad enjoy his day.

im sure you will do fine plus its more than likely going to be a bunch of older people who im sure have really know idea what dj even means lol so just do what you do best and whatever you do, dont think of messing up GOOD LUCK

I think you might want to ask your dad what he really liked as he was growing up.  What songs did he listen to when he was a teenager?  What songs have true meaning and are songs of growth ?  Rolling stones?  Chuck Berry? Buddy Holly?  What kind of music interests him?  Who is coming to his party?  Ask them.  His friends might know exactly what his faves are.
