How to be a smart teacher?

try to know your students (individually) make them know that you really care about them.. be nice but at the same time firm.. as many other mentioned.. humor is a very way to spice your lessons.. but always know your boundaries.. use different strategies to teach.. make sure that everyone understands what r u talking about...

Try to go by the title of Mr or Mrs and try teaching them.

Please tell me you aren't really a teacher- this is the problem with our education system-we have nutters in charge of the class rooms.

Who cares if they hurt your feelings and don't remember you-are they going to remember enough of what you are supposed to be teaching them to get a job?

It's quite hard. First, you should have a vocation to be a teacher. You should love young people. You should love what you teach. And last but not least, you should accept the personality you are and be clear about what you can and cannot do. Then the role you take among the kids as their teacher can make you authentic and kids may find you amiable.

I wouldn't call it a "strategy", but most students remember the ones who believed in their potential.  Support your students in becoming the best they can be and they will remember you.  Interesting how many current students mention jokes.  The teachers I remember best were some of the most serious, but I knew they cared about my learning.
