How to be able to swim 50 yards in 35 seconds or less in a week?

i will need to be able to complete this to get a summer job, also later on, the lifeguard test requires me to be able to swim 440 yards in 7 minutes

some information

i took swimming when i was younger, so most of the forms i have down

i work out on a day to day basis and i can run 1 mile easily, but 2 miles i can complete but it is more difficult

im 16, 5 foot 7 and 147 pounds

i have access to a gym now, and pool starting monday what can i do to ensure i meet these goals? thank you

  1. Ok several tips for you:

    1. Gym. Dont work out to much there. Your muscles will grow too much then put you out of shape and you wont be able to swim well. Just about 15 minutes of mild weight training is fine.

    2. Hold your  breath. Sit infront of a clock and take a deep breath. Dont fill your cheeks up. Try and hold for about 1 min, or keep practising once in a while, like mabye a couple times a day. To much can be bad for you though. relax before doing it.This is how its useful:

    3. When you swim freestyle if its only 50 yards you can do it without breathing, or just 2 or 3 breaths. Hold your breath and tell your self not to breathe till you get to the other side. THis is a very good tip. you will breathe though but you will sprint faster.

    4. Swimming tips for freestyle: People dont realise how much power our legs have, if you kick very fast, with straight legs without bending the knee, trust me, you will go fast.

    5. Reach out far with your strokes. This is the key for F/C. Strech far and you can get further with less energy.

    This is what i did to get my 50 yards free to less then 33 seconds (around 60 yards mabye) coz i did it in 50 meters in the place i swim.

    The streching far will be good for your lifeguard test as endurance is important.

  2. I havent hit the teens yet and I can reach about 23 sec for my 50 free. I went to the pool everyday and worked really hard. First you might want to try to get atleast 13 on your 25 free. Then, work on keeping a pace and working up to a faster speed gradually. After a couple of days start practicing 50 frees and do about 5 of them and take about a 10 sec break in between. And just go on from there! Hope this helped!
