  1. It's a terrible job, and the aviation industry is in terrible shape right now.  The pay is poor, and the benefits aren't much better.  I think they believe since you can fly for free that they don't need to give you a decent health plan or retirement.  Flying for free is fun, but it doesn't help you when you need to eat.  Expect long hours and lot's of time away from home.  You will not see weekends or holidays off for many, many years.  Your family will love the flight benefits, but they will forget what you look like.  Don't get married as you will probably get divorced.  It's fun for awhile but it also gets tiring fast.  I would look into NetJets if you want a descent job.  Or perhaps a foreign airline or working for a private company.  Go to an aviation message board and read all the complaints by current flight attendants.  You are not too old, but you would be better off going into nursing.  If you decide to do it, don't say you weren't warned.

  2. Most airlines start hiring at 21 and you be a young one at that! Most flight attendants are dinosaurs now. Depends on the airline but you usually get really good benefits health plus travel benefits. It is so much fun being a flight attendant. THe crews are awesome and you will get more great passengers than awful ones. The pay however is pretty small starting out. 15,000 a year. If you stay long enough it gets better though! Having a family is hard though because you are only home a few nights a week.

  3. you must meet certain faa rules.

hight, weight, be able to open and close doors, including the over the wing doors, be able to swim,   and be able to put up with rowdy people.

    benefits ---depends on the airline.

  4. Since 9/11 its very difficult to get hired with a major carrier (i.e. American, Delta, etc.) however usually getting on with one of the regional carriers isn't too bad.

I've actually heard really good things about JetBlue if you can get on with them. Southwest has a reputation for being one fo the worst airlines as far as flight attendants go.

I used to work for American Eagle- it had its pros and cons.

To answer your question, its very difficult (especially in the beginning) if you have a family or any other commitments.

You're on reserve (like a doctor on call) and your life pretty much belongs to the airline.

Its the type of job, though, that if you can stick it out 5-10 years becomes a REALLY good job. You make decent money, have really good benefits and can pretty much make your own schedule.

Bottom line- its a very unique experience... i'd go to a particular airline's website and just fill out an application... see what happens.  :)

  5. The answer is yes, yes, and yes, but I've often heard complaints re: work hours for attendants.  A good job, just not good pay until you have a number of years experience.

I'd say do it only if nothing else will satisfy you.
