  1. It's more of a challenge with bachata, since there isn't much to the dance otherwise. But the position is what it is, no more.

It's odd that this would come up now. Just this past week, I had a new ballroom dancer think I was being a dirty old man (which coincidentally is one of my goals in life, but that's another story) because I was using close body contact. The same thing with the right thigh between your partner's legs is used in standard ballroom dances, but generally the new kids don't learn it that way. It's something that eventually begins to make sense once you understand WHY it works the way it does. In ballroom, there's a process of self-discovery; in bachata, it's more obscure. But the thighs, the right side of the pelvis, and the right side of the lower ribcage are all felt as part of the communication between the partners, and the communication is about dance, not s*x.

  2. Note: I'm basically totally unqualified to say anything about this particular dance, but I do know a thing or two about latin dance in general. Something to never forget: latin dance is seduction.  We sterilize it in western cultures to make it seem more "polite" but it really isn't.  The contact is intended to be sexually charged, but you're not supposed to "grind" against each other.  Not to mention that he isn't supposed to be pushing into her too much.  The interaction should be smooth and sensual, not overly forceful.  He's a man, not a bulldozer, but he should know that.
