I just moved to australia 3 weeks ago. I posted an ad about I'd like to be a Mandarin Tutor on the internet before I went to australia as I wanna do a part-time job here. I havent mentioned how much per hour I charge, just said the price was negotiable.

Then a local girl found me, said she would like to learn mandarin. And we've already met, she's very nice, even showed me around. As I live far away from the city, she even would like to drive to my place every time.

We've already finished 1 lesson, and I thought she would say something about how much she'd like to pay or something, but she didn't. She even hasnt asked me how much I'd like to charge. I always thought she would mention this case first, but..... anyway, Im going to teach for the 2nd time, I dont want such $$ case will break our relationship or something, cuz I do think she's very nice, im new here, and I wanna make friends with her.

So what should i do?

  1. Decide how much you feel comfortable charging her and tell her the next time you see her that you are providing a paid service. You can be nice about it. Apologize for not bringing it up sooner, but let her know that this is a source of income for you. If she's as friendly as you say, she'll have no problem with this.

Just make sure you strike a deal you know you can enforce and you both can live with. Make a plan and follow through.
