  1. Surfing is an ocean sport, to do it right, you have to be at home in the ocean, with its currents, rips, undertows and sometimes big waves. I don't just mean being good at swimming in a pool, the ocean can be very unforgiving. I have seen lots of really good pool swimmers have to get rescued. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. You can't do that in a week!

Lessons are usually the best way to start, unless you are an adolescent or young adult with lots of pals who surf who can teach you. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook you up with lessons, and even rent you a board to learn on. Just work on your basics, and after you feel good, think about buying a board, but don't rush into anything.

If you only have one week, get lessons, have fun, and be able to accept the fact that you haven't even scratched the surface. I started at 14. I was already an accomplished swimmer, and it took me most of the summer to get 'decent' and certainly not 'good'. And I was in the water every day! I have been surfing for 42 years, and I have never seen anybody progress that fast.

  2. in a week you can go to the beach everyday and get a buddy to help you. you could go to a beach with samll waves, you could also ride a skateboard or something when you're not surfing.

  3. not good, but at least u can surf..take lessons..thats the best way  im interested in surfing too, each time I visit Bali, I always subscribe the surfing lesson

  4. there is no way you can become a good surfer in just a week.  i wish you could go to a local shop and rent some skills along with a board, but it just doesnt work like that.  you need time to build up the right muscles, muscle memory, cardio, knowledge of the water, knowledge of other surfers.  just keep practicing, you wont be good in a week, but you will be good eventually
