  3. The best way to be good when you start fishing is to do a lot of research on the type of fish you plan to target. It's good to target one type of fish at a time because each fish has different preferences for food, shelter, and time of day. Each season is going to affect when and where you should fish too.

As far as where, the best thing to do is check with your local Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks (each state has one, and they usually have their own website that shows you all of the fishable areas in your state as well as fishing regulations). Just google "[your state] DWFP", that should get you want you need. Any place that has fish is good to fish, just try to look for cover like weeds and fallen trees and such. Most fish like to hang around that stuff (just be careful, because you are liable to loose a lot of hooks/lures).

Here are some sites that will help you get started on learning good techniques like how to find fish during certain seasons, as well as how to tie knots, what equipment you will need, and how to use it.

That should get you started. Remember, there are a lot of sites out there that can help you, so google anything you need and you will be able to find it. Also, YouTube has a LOT of good videos from fishermen showing how to use equipment and gives good techniques, so be sure to check that out too.

I hope this helps. Good luck. Let us know if you have any other questions and we will help the best that we can. Tight lines!!
