  2. Yep, it can be pretty tough, but at least you're trying to be more outgoing. You could try to put yourself on the spot, not as an exhibitionist (wanting attention), but sort of exposing yourself embarrassment to "desensitize" yourself of your shyness. Most of the time, people are scared of appearing stupid, so just avoid social situations. Condition yourself to be more open. Try with saying whatever is on your mind. You could try complimenting someone, but do mean it--try "I really like your shirt, where did you buy it?"--striking up small talk with a cashier (or anyone else). If you're really daring, say "I love you," or something else, out loud when you walk into the store. Most will just stare, but extra points if someone says it back--hopefully they, too, are in a jocose spirit! It'll be a bit weird if they mean it. Let go of embarrassment and you'll be more free. Take a firm stance in who you are and charge into the precarious vortex of human relations. Smiling and making eye-contact is a plus. Also have friends support you. And shrug off curmudgeons, shrews, and jerks, don't let them spoil your shine.

Edit: So the whole "I love you (world)" might've went far. If you would like to "party," then try making some time to go to clubs, dances, and/or parties. If more of a mellow mind then try taking a class (or joining a club) with a variety of people. You could try a yoga or tai chi class. Or join an art club, language club--it's never bad to learn a learn new language. Or even bird watching if you like birds. Everyone in the world has the potential to be your friend, you just got to make a move. Find something you enjoy, and where you're bound to meet people with similar interests as you, and then just socialize. You'll have plenty to talk about.

    Peace
