So my bf's apartment company wrote him the nastiest letter about owing money on a garage and not paying it for the last 5 months and if he doesnt pay it within a week they are locking him out of the building. Well would be understandable if he rented a garage. He did rent one at the beginning of his lease but discontued it long ago with permission from the managment company and someone else has since rented it out. It doenst help that the fact she underlined a bunch of words in the letter like we cant read or would miss the main part. I was just wondering what should I say to her that is polite but at the same time rude?

  1. First off your BF should be the one to address the problem so that the situation will be taken more seriously. If you are going to draft a letter for him or script something out for him to say, I'm with the above answer where you should be graceful but state the obvious FIRMLY. Pretty much write out what you wrote in this question formally and point out that the tone of their letter was not necessary, especially if they'd had their facts straight. You could also ask for a formal apology. That'll make them feel like an a$$.

  2. This is a situation that won't be handled in a rude letter.  He needs to meet with the management company and find out why their is an accounting error on his account regarding the garage.  It may be true that they let him out of the lease on the garage, but he may be liable for the amount of the rent until a new renter signed for the garage.  This may be able to be cleared up with a simple conversation with them to straighten out where the breakdown in understanding is.

  3. the way to get around it is to show passive aggression. for this to really work, you need to be utterly, utterly proper. you use words that are completely polite but back it with an icy demeanor. the idea is to convey that you think she is a complete idiot but are far too well bred to ever show it. point out where she has made an error with unfailing pleasantness - keep coming back to these points, and never lose your temper: agree with her, but make it seem like its obvious.

i've used this method many times. it requires patience, but it is incredibly frustrating/annoying to the other person.
