How to be punk/goth?

i'm 13 and ive always been interested in weird/creepy stuff and im kind of an outcast and school. alot of my friends are goth and ive been wanting to be one too for about 2 or 3 years know....but the thing is...i dont really know how to LOOK like a goth...i mean i paint my fingernails black and try to dress in darker clothes but i dont really know what to do with the make-up on my face.

if you are goth, then could you please tell me what make-up you use?

I'm not a goth actually but i tell you based on what i see. You don't have to worry about the make-up much. A thick layer of eyeliner would give you that creeping look. Don't forget to wear that accessories of the hand and neck with metal thorns. They sometimes send creeping feeling to the other person who's looking at it. Don't forget to pierce your ears if can a lot. Wear accessories with ghost pictures specifically skeleton. Good luck on your goth look.

*sigh* First thing first, Goth and Punk are music subcultures, if you are not actually into goth rock or punk rock dressing like one will not make you a punk or a goth... it will make you a poseur.

(Goth is a music subculture that started in the late 70's out of punk rock around the music genre of goth rock. And a goth is an avid fan/musician of goth rock... one who participates at least a little in the subculture.)

Actual goth bands are ones like: 45 grave, Christian Death (the older band by the name not the newer one), Bauhaus, the Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cult, The Mission UK, etc..

And more recently: Voltaire, Bella Morte, the Birthday Party, Anders Manga, London after Midnight, Cruxshadows, etc..

Please note; Manson and Evanescence are NOT goth. They are shock rock and alternative respectively.

Now that being said, the classic goth looks are actually based on the bands from the 70's like the Cure and the various goth rock bands.  There are quite a few different looks, I would recommend magazines like "Gothic Beauty" or Voltaire's book "what is goth?" if you would really like to get an idea on various looks.

The "classic" look for most goth clubs is black cloths and combat/stompy boots.  Makeup wise, a base 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone (applied to the face and neck to under your shirt), black eyeliner (liquid looks better but is harder to apply, so most use a eyeliner pencil instead, so they get a more even line) under the eyes, and black mascara, is normally all that is needed (and either black or neutral lip gloss).

But again, there is really no one look for goths, it is about the music.

If all your friends are goth then surely it's obvious what they look like.

Being a goth is about music and culture, not about wearing a black lace top. If you have to ask then you're not ready to know.

Just be yourself, you don't need to conform to a social group in order to feel unique, it's a contradiction anyway think about it, goths/emos etc.. all think they look individual when in actual fact they're all exactly the same.

if youve been thinking of goin goth for 2 -3 yrs wouldnt you already know how to ?

black fingernails aint purely goth ,can be grunge ,emo ,punk ,etc....

dark clothes isnt goth either h**l i've been wearing mainly black for yrs and idont consider myself goth .

goth is more a feeling or a personal reflection of personality ...and sorry buddy but you sound like an emo wannabe ...cos you dont do it for originality or to be expressive of anything

dont try and be a slave to fashion just dress how you wanna

went through all that c**p in high school ....i now wear jeans alot ,i love black clothes ,i adore wierd pic tshirts [old cartoons like dangermouse and duckula and the grim reaper ,horror films etc.]

and i dont care what people think cos its what i like and feel comfortable in ....grow a spine and develop your own comfort zone [dont go goth cos it looks cool or whatever is goin through your pubescent mind]

hey kiddo, being a punk or goth or whatever is not about being such that just because you wanted to be cool just like the people you see on the streets or whatever. don't push yourself to be like them, being someone like that means a lot for them, and I'm very sure that it will not be your kind. because you don't even know how to build yourself. get a life, be unique. its better than to be a poser and loser. oh people!! this is what i can say to you, btw before you react on what i said, i'm a punk rocker gal. no offense buddy. just saying what i think you must know.
