  1. The best way, physically, to become a better Libero is to develop better reflexes. Work with a reflex ball, a ball that bounces unpredictably. You can get them cheap at PlayItAgain Sports.

Mentally, you need to understand defense the best way possible. Buy a coaching book from amazon or something (you don't have to be a coach to read a book on it), that covers defense in-depth. If you learn all the types of defenses, you can lead the back row and take charge. You will also learn where you need to be exactly to have the best chance to make a play on the ball.

Also, play up when you can. Play against hard hitters more often than playing with them. Once you get used to harder and more experienced hitters, your level hitters will be nothing to defense.

I like my liberos to be leaders and independent thinkers. I was very lucky to be graced with two great libero's the last two years on my club team. Liberos can make or break a team.

    Best of luck.

  2. I'm a libero too!!!!

    Woot woot a librotherhood =]

Ummm just go for any ball. Dive if you have to and dont worry about the consequences. During hitting lines study the hitters and where they like to hit, it will help you and you should learn the spot they like to hit so you can dig it.

  3. to be the best is impossible because no matter what there is always gonna be some one better out there. believe me i know first hand. i am a senior and when i was a sophmore i was very cocky i was one of the premiere players in my state and i thought i was the best then we plaed a team were the had a player ten times better than me and the smashed us. but if you want to be a great libero you need to be first be hungry to play the. second always communicate. and third be very greedy and not in a bad way but be greedy as in wanting to pass the ball as perfect as you can as mush as you can. but remember everyone has their off days so if theres a day where you arent performing your greatest just shake it off and move on to the next game. good luck

  4. Allright the best position is libero because runs all the time and has more eye reflexly.  Dont be crosspatch !!!!! Lol

one player I know is very grouchy and lose the ball

be yourself and run to take the ball

I'm not libero because is very tiresome for me....

  5. On your feet, and go.

Basically you want to move your feet before you move your body (try to get under the ball by moving your feet before attempting a dive).

Whenever there is a free-ball, call "I go" and be there.

You are the best passer (even if it is just a "potential for now" on the team... make it a statement.

  6. to be a good libero, you need to feel the flow of the game. this is very hard to do, but it basically means, you know where the ball is going before it goes there. you also need to be able to pass and dig anything. without passing, you won't be a good libero. digging is where your metal really shows, getting those hard hits up, getting an impossible pancake, stuff like that. to play libero, you need to have quick reflexes, be able to react to a jump in a float serve. you need to beat the ball to where the best place to pass it is, which leads me to my next point. you have to be quick and light on your feet. passing the ball is only half the work, getting there is the other half. you cannot be afraid to dive into the stands, or over the bench, or anywhere (into a trash can, happened to our libero once). if you are worried about getting injured on a dive, you will not be a very good libero, but the way to get around this is to not worry about getting injured, but getting the ball up. mainly, pass good, dive after everything, react quick and feel the game.

  7. This is a post I did for another libero, but I'm going to post it again for you.

    1. Never give up on any balls even if you look dumb for it.

This will by itself make you much better in time (if you don't already do it).

    2. Try to be stopped with feet planted leaning slightly forward right before the hitter makes contact.

This will help your mobility and reaction time.

    3. Play into the court.

You say that you get sucked in. Start deeper, but make your stance one that will allow you to move forward more easily (see #2).

    4. Reading the hitter.

There is a lot I could tell you here, but much of it takes experience to really catch on. Here are three tips that you can start using right away:

Tip A. If the ball is set to the outside hitter very tight, and the blockers are there, be extra ready for the tip. Most OH's will tip that unless they jump very high or are excellent at tooling.

Tip B. If an outside hitter is set off the net , they will most likely hit cross court. This is true about even very good players. It is a safety shot. High so you don't get blocked, and across the court for longest distance to hit it in. Hitting line for them would be risky.

Tip C. Recognize when the set has been pushed out too far. The antennae will block out some of the line shot they would otherwise have, so DON'T cover what they can't hit.

You can't read an arm swing, or a hand contact, because that is too late. You can read line of approach, shoulder positioning, position of set, and position of block.

Watching a good libero that sees all these situations and more, it seems like they can tell where every ball is going to go.
