  1. Your situation is unclear from the info in your question.

Is your fiance an Australian citizen or PR?

    Where are you from?

What type of visa did you/will you enter Australia on?

Have you been living together and for how long?

How long have you been in a relationship with her?

The reason we need to know the above information is that the Australian government will not give you residency of any kind - permanent or temporary, if your marriage isn't genuine and is taking place simply to get get residency for you. You need to be able to prove that the marriage is one between people in a 'genuine and continuing' relationship. The provable length and nature of the relationship will determine what type of residency you may be able to get and that in turn will affect the citizenship procedures.

    EDIT:

Simply marrying an Australian isn't enough in itself to get permanent residency then citizenship for you. The best you would get is a 2 year temporary visa. If you're still married or living together at the end of that time, you could then be granted a permanent visa which could then lead to citizenship in a few years. The following website has more information:

  2. If you became an Australian resident on or after 1st July 2007, you must have been legally resident in Australia for at least four years immediately before applying for Citizenship.

During these FOUR years, you must have spent at least 12 months as a permanent resident, and must NOT have spent more than 12 months out of Australia during that four years, and no more than three months out of the country in the 12 months immediately before applying.

If you were an Australian Resident before 1 July 2007, and apply for Citizenship before 30 June 2010, you must have been physically present in Australia as a permanent resident for a total of two years in the five years before applying, including one year in the two years before applying.

Being married makes no difference.  You still need to take the Citizenship test, and wait the required period.

But... are you talking about becoming a Permanent Resident and being allowed to stay in Australia?

If so, then you need to apply for a Spouse Visa, after getting married...

Visas subclass 309 and subclass 820 are provisional visas issued to people who are applying for permanent residence on 'spouse' grounds.

The provisional visa will lead to the grant of a permanent 'spouse' visa (subclass 100 or subclass 801) as long as the Department of Immigration and Citizenship decides that the person's relationship is still 'genuine and ongoing' 2 years after the person applied for the visa.

After that you then wait another 4 years to become a Citizen.

  3. being married does not give you citizenship, once married your wife will have to sponsor you to immigrate, you will have to prove it is a genuine marriage and pass medical and criminal checks.if you pass all that then you may get permanent residency. Then you need to live in Australia or 4 years then you can apply for citizenship
