  1. Oncologists are doctors.  They have either an MD or a DO (doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy) and have  completed a three-year medicine residency as well as a three year fellowship in hematology/oncology as a specialty.  Radiation oncologists is a very highly specialized residency--they do both a medicine or surgical internship year and a four-year residency.

I am not aware of any masters programs in radiation oncology in terms of treating patients.  You can have the title of doctor by completing a doctorate and getting a PhD in any subject that one is offered in, so perhaps you could have one in radiation technology or physics and work in the field.  Some therapists who treat patients and have a masters degree in psychology will refer to themselves as 'doctor.'  But if you want to be a radiation oncologist, you have to get a medical degree first.

  2. Go to college. Although you do not have to major in a specific subject, you do need to take courses such as organic chemistry and biology.

Step2 Take the Medical College Admissions Test or MCAT. Your MCAT scores will be important in getting into medical school.

Step3 Research the medical schools that interest you. Check on their requirements, size and location as well as the average GPA and MCAT scores of their students.

Step4  Apply to medical school using the American Medical College Application Service. Apply on line at their website. Complete the application on time.

Step5  Prepare for your interview. Think about why you want to attend medical school and what you would like to do in medicine.

Step6   Attend medical school and work hard. You will complete classroom and hospital work as well as take medical board exams.

Step7  Decide what type of doctor you would like to be. Apply to residency programs in the specialty of your choice.

i think oncology is cancer related.

  3. In order to be a doctor you have to get a Ph.D, MD, DC or ED. There may be more but I don't know them. You cant become a doctor with a masters.
