  1. The previous answer said it all, however the more you train the fitter and more toned your body will become.

But don't worry about your appearance just look at Butterbean lol :-)

  2. i assume u saw that movie "never back down" fisrt of all u need to understand that it is a lifelong commitment to be a fighter, learning everything isn't goin to be overnite, i started BJJ/MMA at age 29, after training hard six days a week I didn't get my black belt until this year at age 37, so as u can see belts arent bought, so in other words u probably won't see any 6 year old Black belts walking around like in karate, secondly i think u need to get ur goals sorted out, stop thinking about looking good and getting the body of a fighter, that is just plain silly and childish, if u want to be a body builder than MMA is not for u, and don't think that mma is like that movie never back down, if u show no respect in any dojo u will regret it,

  3. 1.  Tae Kwon Do and Karate won't cut it, unless you're taking VERY legit Shotokan or Kyokushin Karate with lots of full-contact sparring.

    2.  Learn how to wrestle and/or start training in a grappling art with submissions (Judo, Sambo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu...etc).

    3.  Boxing and Muay Thai (or Sanda/San Shou) are important for striking skills.  You need to spar as much as possible with a fully-resisting opponent in order to get good at any martial art.

    4.  Start doing HIIT training (High Intensity Interval Training), it'll help your cardio a lot (it's better than running on a treadmill for an hour a day and takes up to twenty minutes).

    5.  Start working out with free weights - train for strength and endurance.  Olympic lifts are your friends (curls...not so much).

    6.  Diet.  Diet.  Diet.

    7.  Realize that this is a serious sport that requires at least twenty-hours a week of dedication and hurts, a lot sometimes.

    8.  There will always be people fatter than you in class, if you're THAT self-conscious get out of MMA now.  If your biggest concern in MMA is weight loss, try something else, because being in great shape is about half the battle of becoming a fighter.

    9.  Start watching fighting.

    10.  Find an internet forum about fighting and join it.
