  1. In my experience, the best grip is almost claw-like, but lets your fingers rest comfortably in the holes of the ball. My ring finger is about level with my thumb at about 9 and 3, leaving my index and middle fingers at about 11 and 1.

Spin can be achieved by twisting your wrist as you throw - it's a hard motion to describe, forgive my poor attempt here:

Start with your fingers at about the clock positions described above. As you deliver the ball, rotate your wrist to bring your thumb to 12, index to 2, middle to 3/4, putting your ring finger close to 6.

Depending on the speed of your pitch and where you start from, among other things, you should start to see some good movement on the ball. Most common will be a right-to-left (I throw right-handed) movement across the plate

By experimenting with different grips and elbow placement, you can get more of a sinking or rising motion.

If you can find some, I recommend practicing with a plastic ball most commonly found in a child's ball pit (like at a Chuck E Cheese's). Those react quite well to spin, and will amplify the effect you put on it.

    Best of luck!
