How to become a homicide detective?

Also i know this isnt going to happen overnight and it takes years and years

im jsut asking for steps and if im on the right path and what you think the easiest way is to acheive my goal

also i live in pheonix arizona now and if there is any great criminal justice schools here you know about.

  1. get any degree that will help in this field then go in to a large department and work on it


  2. You are correct, this will take time. Departments do not hire someone with no experience to work homicide. You must put in your time on the street and work your way up. You must posses excellent writing skills as well as common sense,observational and interviewing skills. It is not like TV at all. If this is where you are getting the idea from please consider this. Most of your time in a major crimes investigative unit will be talking to liars, tracking down liars and sorting out all kinds of human misery. If the sight and smell of blood and dismembered bodies does not bother you, put in your time and work hard this can be achieved. You will still need to attend a police academy as well. Good luck.

  3. watch lots and lots of CSI and Law and Order.
