  1. You should probably go to the pool or beach you want to work at, talk to a lifeguard there and see if they know the number of the hiring manager. you should call them and ask what there requirments are for a job there. Keep in mind you might want to have some kind of first aid certification first because one of the questions they will ask you is how far are you certified. that way when they ask you you can sound like your really interested and say that you really wanted to get certified to meet that certain beachs or pools standards. be prepared to work long hours in the heat doing a boring job with boring people.

    hope I helped good luck!

  2. I am assuming you mean what do you have to do to become a lifeguard. You will have to pass the lifeguard certification test which means you have to pass the pre-test which consist of swimming a 500 (20 laps-- 10 freestyle, 6 breast stroke, and 4 of your choice); treading water for 5 minutes; and swimming from the shallow end to the deep end, retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom of the deep end, and swim back to the shallow end on your back with the brick extended out the water above your chest. Then you have to take a 30 hour course, pass 3 written test (there pretty easy), and pass a scenario test (but all things you will be tested on would have been covered during the course so you should have no problem doing it). The hardest part of the whole becoming a lifeguard is the pre-test because depending on who you have they can be a major pain and some place actually time the 20 lap swimming. By passing this you will be certified as a lifeguard and for first aid. Then all you have to do is look for a job.

  3. I don't know about NJ, but you first and foremost have to get certified. This is done by finding a place in your city via internet, or phone book that does the certification, then signing up to take the course, and then passing that course. It will cost you around $200 for a basic life guard certification that will allow you to guard local pools. After you get you certification from the red cross, you then have to apply at various pools, and just like any other job, go through the interview and then hopefully get hired. Thats it, just get your certification, and apply. Good luck.

  4. It depends on the pool where you work.

At my pool we go up on the chair for 20 or 40 minutes and get a 20 minute break. During our break we have to make sure that the bathrooms are stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap and take out the trash if needed. We also have to man the first aid station.
