How to become a merchant mariner in MSC

Question

i was trying to join the navy but i was waiting for my dependency waiver to be granted. my second option is to join the MSC. i have my z-card already and i'm a united states citizen. what else do i need? and is it hard to apply for a job in msc? do i have to go a training school first?
