Question:

How to become a nun?

I'm close to graduating with a Bachelor's Degree, and I really appreciate the emphasis on remaining chaste.

Some basic questions:

-- Is there a period where you can get a feel for the environment before officially taking a vow?

-- How do you go about becoming a nun?

-- What are the best type of organizations that provide local information on becoming a nun?

There are several Catholic churches around here. Previously I was a non-denominational Christian but now would like to adhere to a specific denomination.

  1. You have to be a full member of the Catholic Church for a year before you can begin the process of becoming a sister or nun.  Full member of the Church means being Baptized and Confirmed and attending Mass and receiving Eucharist each week.

Once you have starting the process of entering religious life there is a minimum of five years before you can make your lifetime commitment.

Talk to the local priest to find the nearest sisters to you, or you can check out www.vocations.com to find information about a wide range of communities.

  2. www.ewtn.com

your best bet would be to go talk with the archdiocese in the area.  there are numerous places and types of nuns.  there is a long time period of studying and prayer to ensure that this is truly your calling so yes you "get a feel for the environment".   however it sounds like you are not catholic nor have been around nuns. that might be a good place to start. being a nun doesn't mean just being chaste.
