Question:

How to become a nurse, online?

Hello there, I was just wondering if it was possible that I take courses online to become a registered nurse. I've come across some online colleges, such as, Walden University? Apparently you can take courses or something to become a nurse, however, I'm not really sure how it works. If someone could explain that would be great! I really need some help because online courses would really help me out a great deal.

Also, I know I'm probably going to have to meet somewhere or something to practice "hands-on" things for nursing, obviously.

& please, no negative comments, or telling me that I shouldn't try online courses.

I just need facts. 10 points to best answer!

Thanks!! [:

  1. You can't get your entry-level degree online.  You have to receive your training at an accredited school of nursing (hospital-based diploma program, 2-year associate degree, or 4-year bachelor's degree).   These are the 3 current entries into registered nursing, and all of these programs combine classroom, practice lab, and clinical experience to give you the knowledge required to take the NCLEX exams after graduation.

If you choose to get a diploma or an associate degree, you CAN earn a BSN through one of the online universities.  Bear in mind, though, that your job experience is where you get your clinical skills.  The online programs teach theory only, and at the end of each class you have to travel to a designated hospital for clinical testing.  You have to already have the clinical skills - this is where you prove you know them, not where you learn them.

    EDIT:

Here's the Walden University web site for nursing:

    http://www.waldenu.edu/c/Schools/Schools...

They offer a Master's Degree in nursing for REGISTERED NURSES WHO ARE ALREADY LICENSED AND WORKING.  They do NOT offer an entry program.  You must already have gone to nursing school.

    University of Phoenix:

    http://www.phoenix.edu/online_and_campus...

The RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,* is designed to develop the professional knowledge and skills of working registered nurses.

    South University

    Online, RN to BSN completion

I've looked at several online schools besides these three, and NONE of them offer the entry degree online.  It isn't possible for you to learn your clinical skills by reading a book; you need regular patient exposure for that.  The online BSN completion programs do have satellite sites, as another poster mentioned, but these are for TESTING your clinical skills, not for teaching you your skills.

If there is any school in the US that allows someone to go from high school straight to an online program to attain a bachelor's degree in nursing, I'd like to see the link.

  2. I am right there with you sister!  I am a nursing student about to graduate from a junior college program and will be going on with my education.  There are several schools that offer online classes.  My suggestion to you is to take all the prerequisite classes first before you start taking your nursing curriculum. Most online nursing programs have theory and clinical section.  So for the online classes they setup satellite sites at several area hospitals for you to go do your clinical portion while you complete the theory portion at home.  It is really easy and online classes allow for a lot more freedom in your schedule.  Just make sure you stay on top of your deadlines for class.

  3. you should probably just go to a regular collage because im sure a nursing degree from a computer school will just get you laughed at

  4. May be this site can help you

  5. i dont wanna be ur mom or nething but u should just go in person, online has too much distractions. i took online courses and failed em all cuz it was confusing and i had to many other things id rather do. atleast when u go in person u know whats goin on.

call around start at a community college since u have to get ur general ed done neways might as well get sum free money. then transfer to another college and do online classes. there are endless ways, just make calls to where u plan on attending.

to the guy above, "regular colleges" offer online classes .
