How to become an Oracle DBA in Vancouver?

I'm a new grad from UBC Computer Engineering (B.A.Sc), previously did co-op as Oracle developer for a year. Current I'm working as a VB.NET developer. I plan to become an Oracle DBA in the future, so do I need certificates like OCA and OCP? How important do you think certificates are to employers? If certificates are not important, how to get related experience?
