  1. You should research this question on YA, since it gets asked several times a day.  Also, be careful about which answers you read, as some of them are from young kids who aren't in the industry just yet.  For instance, at most airlines your time in the first officer's seat doesn't really matter for when you upgrade to captain.  It just goes by seniority.  Some airlines do have minimum flight hours to become a captain, though.  Of course, you don't need to know any of this right now.  That will all come later on.  Just find a good school and start flying.  And it's expensive, so you may have to work as an engineer for a bit while you pay for it.  Hope that helps you.

  2. There are three approaches:

1:  Join the airforce and have them train you.  But then you are committed to the airforce for awhile.  That may not be your cup of tea.  Best education out there though.

2:  Try to do it by taking lessons at FBOs - slow and expensive.  I think this is what you are referring to.  When I was doing this (20 years ago), it was $55/hour for the airplane (including fuel) plus another $20/hour for the teacher.  You are required to have at least 44 hours of flight time - it adds up.  I have to assume that it costs considerably more/hour now.

3:  Go to a pilot training school - more concentrated learning, but you're not going to be doing anything else while you're doing it.  If this really is what you want to do - I recommend jumping in feet first.

  3. You will first have to enrol yourself into a flying club or a flying school. A flying club is preferred if you want to do it part time(not sure.. you will have to check with each flying club as to how they operate).

There are 3 types of licences(in order):

    1. SPL(student pilot licence)

    2. PPL(private pilot licence)

    3. CPL(commercial pilot licence)

The 1st one allows you to start you're flying lessons, its more like the basic knowledge about flying.

The 2nd(PPL) allows you to qualify as a private pilot, which means you can take people for a joy ride and do not get paid for it. It is more of a hobby.

The 3rd(CPL) lets you apply for a job with the airlines, for which you fly as a co-pilot after a little training in the airlines.

To become the pilot in command, you will have to fly as a co-pilot for a while till you get enough experience and then get another licence, ATPL(airline transport pilot licence).

The cost varies for each club or school.

                         ALL THE BEST!!!
